Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken breast
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce
- 4 pita breads
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 cucumber, diced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken breast to the marinade, ensuring it’s well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes, or up to overnight for enhanced flavor.
- Preheat the grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat, around 375°F.
- Cook the marinated chicken: Place the marinated chicken on the grill. Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and juices run clear.
- Slice the chicken: Once fully cooked, remove the chicken from the grill. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before slicing thinly into strips.
- Warm the pita: On the grill or in a skillet, warm the pita bread for about 1 minute on each side until soft and pliable.
- Assemble the gyros: Place a generous amount of sliced chicken on the warm pita. Top it with a dollop of tzatziki sauce and fresh diced tomato, cucumber, and onion.
- Serve: Fold the pita gently around the filling and serve immediately while everything is warm and fresh.
Notes
Marinate the chicken overnight for deeper flavor. Use gluten-free pita or lettuce wraps for a low-carb option.
